Intense crimson flowers in May - will really make a statement wherever it is planted. The foliage is a deep, fresh green and bigger than most P. douglasii foliage which only helps to make the flowers look even better. About 8 to 10cm (4") high, neat, spreading mounds.
Listed in some editions of the RHS 'The Plant Finder' as Phlox subulata 'Tamaongalei' which it definitely isn't. 'Tycoon' was raised by Jack Drake at Inshriach, near Aviemore - one of many Phlox he introduced - but sadly seldom offered.
