Brilliant yellow flowers nestled on dark green leaves.
Morisia has long, deeply cut, glossy green and slightly fleshy leaves formed into rounded rosettes. In early spring, these start to produce flowers, brilliant yellow and nestled into the dark foliage. Only 5cm (2") high. 'Fred Hemmingway' is regarded as the best form to grow.
A lovely alpine for a trough or similar selected spot and looks especially good if protected over winter (such as in an alpine house, cold conservatory or porch) where it will flower in early March, perhaps sooner.
Likes a very free-draining, sandy or gritty soil - in nature, Morisia grows on coastal sand dunes.
