A very compact, slow-growing alpine, so ideal for use in a stone sink or trough, or in a crevice on the rock garden. Makes tight pads of tiny leaves, bright gold in late spring when the plant flowers, dotted with little palest-pink flowers. Together it's a lovely combination. Only 3cm (1") high at most. Enjoys full sunshine and a free-draining soil or compost but not too dry.
The original plant was found in the Shetland Isles. Yes, it's hardy!
