Velvety grey down overlays the plum-coloured leaves giving a very pleasant effect. Like most houseleeks, the colours change with the seasons, this one darker and more purple in winter, greyer and more downy in summer. Forms clumps of nicely symmetrical rosettes. Very effective in a group.
Named after the breeder in the USA, 1960. Often listed as simply 'Engles' or 'Engle's'.
