Forms very solid clumps with short, hard leaves, brown-tipped. The late winter/early spring colour is especially dark.

From our experience, this plant is widely distributed under different names - Mahogany, Helen, Bloody Goose and possibly other name as well. In a way, it does show how many people want to grow this excellent cultivar - whatever the name!
